Record No: 11-X-01      Last Update: 07/18/2013

EPA Region: 10     Fiscal Year: 2011
States: AK
Record Type: Action
Pollutants: PM-2.5,NO2     Sources: Drilling Rig
Models: AERMOD     Urban/Rural: Rural

Comments:
Issue: Region X is seeking concurrence from the Model
Clearinghouse of an alternative modeling process pursued
under Condition 3 in Section 3.2.2.e in Appendix W for
modeling emissions in an Arctic Marine Ice Free environment.

C/H Response: Model Clearinghouse concurs on the use of
AERMOD-COARE in specific applications covered under Region
10’s approval process for modeling in the ice free
environments of the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas. As noted in
Region 10’s memorandum, should a project proponent desire to
use AERMOD-COARE in another Arctic Marine Ice Free
environment, a request must be made to Region 10 prior to
the submission of an ambient air quality impact analysis
that includes appropriate references and technical
justifications pursuant under Condition 3 in Section 3.2.2.e
in Appendix W.
