Description:

Ozone-based disinfection of drinking water is considered to be a safer, less hazardous alternative to chlorination. However, ozonation can be an expensive process due to high capital cost of ozone generating equipment and power usage. This SBIR project will demonstrate the feasibility of an innovative technique for generating ozone. This proposed approach uses a remarkable phenomena exhibited by a certain class of ferroelectric materials, namely the ability to produce very large currents of electrons in air at atmospheric pressures. UHV Technologies will use ferroelectric cathodes for ozone generation resulting in the ability to produce compact, low-cost, high electrical efficiency, low voltage operation, and longer lifetime ozonators.
