Objective:
This project aims to develop an integrated water-wastewater-energy system for ecotourism development in Costa Rica lead by the Shuabb Aborigine Women Association.
Approach:
The system will integrate green technologies to 1) obtain water for human consumption, 2) generate energy for cooking, 3) treat solid waste and wastewater produced in the ecotourism complex, and 4) demonstrate the economic and ecotourism value of this kind of development in a region with limited access to public services, but great environmental richness.
Expected Results:
The project is expected to develop a system to provide clean water, pathogen free human waste disposal, sustainable energy for cooking, fertilizer for an active wetland, and pleasant aesthetics. Additionally, the project is expected to increase awareness of sanitation, sustainability, and ecosystem protection in an aboriginal community.
