Novel Fiber Optic Biosensor for Pesticide Residue Detection

EPA Contract Number: 68D60039
Title: Novel Fiber Optic Biosensor for Pesticide Residue Detection
Investigators: Tran, Tuan
Small Business: Fiber and Sensor Technologies Inc.
EPA Contact: Richards, April
Phase: I
Project Period: September 1, 1996 through March 1, 1997
Project Amount: $69,703
RFA: Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) - Phase I (1996) RFA Text |  Recipients Lists
Research Category: Ecological Indicators/Assessment/Restoration , SBIR - Monitoring , Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)

Description:

The materials and technology now exist to construct a fiber optic-based sensor for the simultaneous measurement of multiple analytes. This instrumentation is crucial to the development and operation of affordable and efficient 21st century field measurements for pesticide residue identification and monitoring. The proposed Phase I SBIR program will focus on the development and evaluation of a novel optical fiber long-period grating (LPG) sensor for performing real-time detection, identification and monitoring and monitoring of multiple analytes which will lead to low cost, high precision field instrumentation.
