Impact/Purpose:

Published Journal Article

Description:

The paper summarizes results of research conducted to determine the capability of various dry paint overspray arrestor systems to capture particles as small as about 1 micrometer in surface diameter. The testing used on optical particle counter to determine the concentration of particles of a given size fraction to penetrate a test arrestor system. Test results indicate that there are significant differences in the efficiency of the tested system designs to capture and retain fine particles. The study was designed to evaluate not only the total emissions control capability of the arrestor, but also the fine particulate control capability of the various system designs. Paint overspray arrestor systems using five different filtration materials (fiberglass, paper, styrofoam, cardboard, and polyester) were selected. The systems used filtration techniques incorporating cyclones, baffles, bags, and mesh.
