LEAD AND COPPER RESEARCH UPDATE: RECENT AND FUTURE AREAS OF WORK
Citation:
Lytle*, D A. LEAD AND COPPER RESEARCH UPDATE: RECENT AND FUTURE AREAS OF WORK. Presented at 2004 Ohio AWWA Meeting, Toledo, OH, September 14 - 17, 2004.
Impact/Purpose:
To inform the public
Description:
Although the Lead and Copper Rule has been in place for over 10 years, many drinking water systems still have difficulty in meeting the lead and copper action levels. Some water quality conditions remain either difficult to treat or changes brought about by treatment changes directly cause some type of unanticipated lead or copper problems. As a result, lead and copper research programs continue long beyond the passage of the Rule. Several important research areas include: controlling copper release in high alkalinity water, investigating the impact of orthophosphate copper corrosion and the role of Pb(IV) chemistry in drinking water systems. The objective of this presentation is to update the audience on current areas of interest and research in the area of lead and copper control.
