GGTC. ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY VERIFICATION REPORT, KMC CONTROLS, INC. SLE-1001 SIGHT GLASS MONITOR. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, DC, EPA/600/R-01/116, 2001.

Description:

The Environmental Technology Verification report discusses the technology and performance of the KMC SLE-1001 Sight Glass Monitor manufactured by KMC Controls, Inc. The sight glass monitor (SGM) fits over the sight glass that may be installed in a refrigeration system for the purpose of visually inspecting refrigerant condition. Bubbles in the sight glass indicate refrigerant loss. The SGM continuously monitors the refrigerant passing through the sight glass and provides a visual alarm when either bubbles or moisture are detected in the system. Optional programmable controllers can transfer these alarms to remote locations. The verification tests were performed on a commercial roof top 75 ton air conditioning (HVAC) system that uses 64.5 lb of R-22 refrigerant and on a 70 ton reciprocating chiller that uses 70 lb of R-22 refrigerant, both owned and operated by North Carolina State University. The sensitivity of the SGM to refrigerant loss was 5.09% and 3.56% of full charge for the HVAC and chiller, respectively.
