Description:

The Environmental Technology Verification report discusses the technology and performance of a gaseous-emissions monitoring system for large, natural-gas-fired internal combustion engines. The device tested is the Parametric Emissions Monitoring System (PEMS) manufactured by ANR Pipeline Company, a subsidiary of the Coastal Corporation, now the El Paso Corporation. The PEMS monitors carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), total hydrocarbons (THCs), Oxygen (O2), and nitrogen oxides (NOx). The PEMS's relative accuracies for measuring NOx, CO, and CO2 were 11.1%, 3.9%, and 6.8%, respectively, which are all within the 20% acceptance criterion for conventional continuous emissions monitoring systems. The relative accuracy for THCs was 34.2%, which was attributed to the 34% difference observed between the sampling system the manufacturer used to set up the system and the sampling system used by the laboratory to verify performance.
