Jian**, K., J O. Burckle, AND S K. Sikdar*. DETERMINATION OF THE MASS TRANSFER CHARACTERIZATION OF A CERAMIC-POLYMER COMPOSITE MEMBRANE IN THE PERVAPORATION MODE. Presented at No. American Membrane Society Annual Meeting, Long Beach, CA, 05/13-16/2002.

Description:

The effect of the coating layer thickness on VOC extraction performance of a ceramic polymer composite membrane has been investigated. It was found, under experimental condiitons representing typical field operation, the overall mass transfer rates of feed components were controlled by membrane resistance under conditions of a thicker coating layer (thicker than abour 30 um), while thinner coating layer thickness (less than about 30 um), the boundary layer resistence and membrane swelling become major effects on the separation performance.
