Description:

The Clean Water Act (CWA) requires each state to develop a program to monitor and report on the quality of its surface and ground waters and prepare a report every two years describing the status of its water quality. A framework has been developed which provides an integrated perspective on monitoring that addresses the requirements of CWA. The framework builds upon a survey designed to assess the overall condition of the state waters, then incorporates other data in conjunction with modeling and analysis to identify those waters likely to be impaired. Some examples will be used to illustrate this framework.
