Impact/Purpose:

To inform the public.

Description:

EPA's Office of Research and Development and Office of Water/Water Security Division have jointly developed a Response Protocol Toolbox (RPTB) to address the complex, multi-faceted challenges of a water utility's planning and response to intentional contamination of drinking water. The RPTB is divided into six modules, each of which discusses a different aspect of the response process. The RPTB was developed through a consensus workgroup which included water utility professionals and officials from AWWA and other major water supply organizations. Technical reviewers included regulatory and utility officials, as well as representatives from the federal, state, and local drinking water laboratories and organizations.
