PROGRAM ASPECT - FOR REMOTE SENSING OF AIRBORNE PLUMES
Citation:
Impact/Purpose:
Development and deployment of atmosheric chemical plume characterization technology utilizing an airborne platform for analysis via infrared scanners and Fourier Transformation Infrared Sectroscopy. Project implementation in collaboration with the Department of Defense United States Army.
Description:
The SAFEGUARD program is a multi-sensor program for the detection and imaging of chemical plumes and vapors. The system is composed of an airborne sensor suite including an infrared line scanner and a high-speed fourier transform infrared spectrometer. Both systems are integrated into a central processor resulting in an identified chemical image. Current focus on the program includes an expansion of the number of calibrated compounds and the development of a response program. The primary end-user of this technology is aimed at the first responder.
