Citation:
RESIDUAL RISK ASSESSMENTS - FINAL RESIDUAL RISK ASSESSMENT FOR SECONDARY LEAD SMELTERS. 2004.
Impact/Purpose:
To assess the health risks imposed by air toxics emissions from Secondary Lead Smelters to determine if control technology standards previously established are adequately protecting public health. Results of a preliminary advisory by the Science Advisory Board (SAB) may be found at http://www.epa.gov/sab/pdf/ecadv05.pdf
Description:
This source category previously subjected to a technology-based standard will be examined to determine if health or ecological risks are significant enough to warrant further regulation for Secondary Lead Smelters. These assesments utilize existing models and data bases to examine the multi-media and multi-pollutant impacts of air toxics emissions on human health and the environment. Details on the assessment process and methodologies can be found in EPA's Residual Risk Report to Congress issued in March of 1999 (see web site).
