Description:
The hydrodechlorination reactions of 1,3-dichloropropene, a component of the waste stream from epichlorohydrin manufacturing, were examined over a variety of catalysts in a packed-bed microreactor. The reactor operated between 7.5–9 Mpa and 325°C and rates of hydrodechlorination were followed for up to 14 h. Pt/-Al2O3 and Ni/SiO2–Al2O3 catalysts were found to exhibit significant activity and no signs of deactivation over the course of the experiments, while other catalysts such as NiMo/-Al2O3 exhibited substantial deactivation. Activation energies for the disappearance of 1,3-dichloropropene over the Pt/-Al2O3 and Ni/SiO2–Al2O3 catalysts were found to be consistent with other dechlorination reactions, approximately 80–120 kJ/mol (20–30 kcal/mol).
