Citation:

Miltner*, R J. ALTERNATIVE OXIDANTS. Chapter 6, Clark, R.M. and Boutin, B.K. (ed.), Controlling Disinfection By-products and Microbial Contaminants in Drinking Water (EPA/600/R-01/110). USEPA, Cincinnati, OH.

Description:

This chapter reports on the efforts of the USEPA to study chloramines, chlorine dioxide and ozone as alternative oxidants/disinfectants to chlorine for the control of disinfection by-rpdocuts (DBPs) in drinking water. It examines the control of DBPs like trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids and the trade off in the formation of chlorite and chlorate with the use of chlorine dioxide, and the formation of bromate, aldehydes and organic acids with the use of ozone.
