Description:

Palladium-catalyzed oxidation of styrene (Wacker reaction) in the presence of 1,3-dialkylimidazolium cation based ionic liquids is described. The effect of temperature, use of co-catalyst, and recyclability aspects for the generation of carbonyl compounds using environmentally denign molecular oxygen or hydrogen perioxide are discussed.
