Description:

Membrane processes, because of unique, specialized, and cost-effective applications, have the potential of playing a significant role in preventing pollution from occurring in manufacturing plans. Opportunities are seen in resource recovery, species purification, and energy savings. Emerging technologies of membrane reactors that combine separation with reaction in one physical unit are important developments also. In this paper we discuss the scope of membrane technologies in industrial applications as well as hurdles that must be overcome.
