RESEARCH IN URBAN STORMWATER BMPS

Citation:

Sullivan*, D A. AND M Borst*. RESEARCH IN URBAN STORMWATER BMPS. Presented at Third International Conference on Watershed Management, Taipei, Taiwan, 12/11-12/2001.

Description:

The use of best management practices (BMPs) in an urban watershed can provide adequate degress of treatment at a relatively low cost. BMPs can range from being management operations (such as street sweeping or reducing the amount of pesticides used on urban lawns) to structural treatment options (the four most common alterantives being detention/retention ponds, swales, filter/bufer strips and constructed wetlands). This paper focuses on structural BMPs and overviews the state of the knowledge, the unknowns, and research programs being undertaken by the USEPA and other key organizations.
