Description:
The EPA's Office of Research and Development has initiated a project with the aim of encouraging and supporting the use of life cycle assessments (LCA's) in environmental management. While LCA is being recognized internationally as an appropriate tool for dealing with environmental issues, the amount of environmental release and resource data needed to conduct an LCA, specifically the inventory portion, makes it a large undertaking. A website, called LCAccess, has been designed to address issues of providing better awareness of and access to life cycle inventory data sources along with a more comprehensive understanding of their overall quality. The aim of the website is to reduce the time and resources needed to locate existing LCI data by cataloguing existing LCI data sources and documenting the quality of each in a searchable database tool. This presentation summarizes the efforts of this project that have been completed to date and as well as the activities that are needed to have a working data portal.
