Impact/Purpose:

This project is intended to provide the Agency with much faster methods of GCMS analysis without sacrificing data quality.

Description:

A fast GC/MS system (FGCMS) consisting of a high-speed gas chromatograph equipped with a narrow bandwidth injection accessory and a time-of-flight mass spectrometer detector is being optimized for analysis of Method TO-14 target compounds. The system consists entirely of commercially-available components. Turn-around time between sample injections has been reduced to six minutes, in contrast to an hour for conventional Method TO-14. Instrument configuration, control, and data processing procedures under development are described.
