THE ECOTOX DATABASE

Citation:

Russom, C L. THE ECOTOX DATABASE. Presented at Developing the Causal Analysis/Diagnosis Decision Information System (CADDIS), Deer Creek St. Park, Columbus, OH, August 26-28, 2002.

Description:

The database provides chemical-specific toxicity information for aquatic life, terrestrial plants, and terrestrial wildlife. ECOTOX is a comprehensive ecotoxicology database and is therefore essential for providing and suppoirting high quality models needed to estimate population effects of toxic chemicals across a wide range of species and spatially-explicit landscapes. Currently, the database includes more than 382,000 individual effect records abstracted from 17,659 publications, representing over 8,100 chemicals and 5,700 aquatic and terrestrial species. The primary source of the data included in ECOTOX is the peer reviewed literature, with test results identified through comprehensive searches of the open literature. In addition, ECOTOX includes electronically submitted data files from the USEPA's NHEERL, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Russia, the US Geological Survey, and EPA's Office of Pesticide Program. All pertinent information of the species, chemical, test methods, and results presented by the authors are abstracted into the database. ECOTOX is available on the US EPA Public Access Website: www.epa.gov/ecotox
