BIOAEROSOL SAMPLE COLLECTION METHODS

Citation:

Barth*, E F. BIOAEROSOL SAMPLE COLLECTION METHODS. Presented at USEPA National Anthrax Workshop - Response Readiness, Cincinnati, OH, November 14 - 15, 2001.

Description:

Bioaerosols are generally defined as those airborne particles that are living or originate from living organisms. Bioaerosol inhalation may result in a variety of lung diseases. Bioaerosols are recognized inhalation threats associated with waste management processes such as wastewater treatment, land application of sludge, composting, municipal solid waste, and confined animal facility operations. Bioaerosols may also be an inhalation threat during the remediation of leather tanning sites, contaminated sediment handling operations, biofilter media change-out, laboraory decontamination activities, building demolition, and terrorism activities. ORD's NRMRL has been involved with a limited number of field studies involving the collection and analysis of bioaerosols. Several of these collection methods are discussed here.
