WORKSHOP ON ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS CHEMICAL PROCESS DESIGN

Citation:

Young*, D AND R L. Smith*. WORKSHOP ON ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS CHEMICAL PROCESS DESIGN. Presented at Issues and Application in Toxicology and Risk Assessment, Fairborn, OH, 4/23-26/2001.

Description:

To encourage the consideration of environmental issues during chemical process design, the USEPA has developed techniques and software tools to evaluate the relative environmental impact of a chemical process. These techniques and tools aid in the risk management process by focusing on the evaluation of environmental concerns (i.e., global warming, human toxicity). The theory (which uses toxicological data) and the appropriate application of these tools will be presented. Also other approaches for evaluating environemtal concerns within this area will be presented. The advantages, limitation, and areas of applicability will be discussed for all methods of evaluating the environmental concerns of a chemical process.
