Description:

To meet the great need of replacing many harmful solvents commonly used by industry and the public with environmentally benign substitute solvents, the PARIS II solvent design software has been developed. Although the difficulty of successfully finding replacements increases with the complexity of chemical structure, PARIS II can find pure chemicals or design mexiture substitutes of up to six components for any pure component or mixture solvent. We demonstrate this regardless of the type of solvent to be replaced, e.g., ketone, aromatic, organic or aqueous mixtures, etc. However, all the solvent properties are not equally important in all solvent design problems, e.g., activity coefficients play a greater role in polar solvents than in normal hydrocarbons. We explore these conclusions supported with examples of pure and mixture solvent replacements.
