Description:

An epidemiologic study of the distribution of lead absorption in the Cleveland Metropolitan Area was carried out by analyzing the lead content of shed or extracted deciduous teeth of 11,241 children. Mean amounts of lead in teeth of children living in some suburbs were as high as those for children living within the city of Cleveland. Levels of lead in teeth declined with increasing age at tooth loss. Efforts were made to relate tooth lead levels to various environmental sources of lead. Also teacher evaluations of children's school performance and behavior were assessed in regard to tooth lead level and environmental exposure.
