Description:
This report summarizes the technical findings of an EPA study on volumetric tank testing. The results of this study, which evaluated the viability of volumetric tank tests as a means of detecting leaks in underground storage tanks, are described. Also, the accuracy requirements specified in the EPA regulations concerning the testing of underground storage tanks for leaks are explained. This document presents information that will aid the user in selecting a volumetric tank test method that meets the above regulations. It was determined from this study that volumetric tank tests are a viable means of monitoring underground storage tanks for leaks and that the concept of volumetric tank testing is intrinsically sound, as are most of the physical devices used in testing. The conclusions drawn from the study indicate that volumetric testing can meet regulatory standards and is an important tool in minimizing the effect of leaks from underground storage tanks.
