Description:

Ambient peroxyacetyl nitrate (PAN), ozone (O3), total oxides of nitrogen (NOy) and other pollutant measurements were made at a rural site near Candor, North Carolina during the June-July, 1992 period as part of the EPA sponsored Southeast Oxidants Study (SOS). AN measurements were made as part of an effort to provide a comprehensive chemical climatology and to investigate the total nitrogen budget at the site. he O3/PAN rates was observed to be 138 +/- 98 and the PAN/NOy rates was 0.12 +/- 0.11. trong correlation between 03 and PAN suggest that mesoscale photochemical production plays a major role in PAN chemistry at this site. urface wind data suggests some correlation between surface wind direction and between both daily PAN maxima and the magnitude of the O3/PAN ratios.
