PFAS Exposure Pathways: Biosolids, Landfills, and Air

Citation:

Mills, Marc A. AND Andrew J.R. Gillespie. PFAS Exposure Pathways: Biosolids, Landfills, and Air. EPA ORD Region 4 States meeting, Cincinnati, OH, May 09, 2023.

Impact/Purpose:

This presentation will inform the Region 4 states as to the state of the science regarding exposure pathways of PFAS. Two sources covered extensively are biosolids and landfills. Research: ORD will characterize PFAS concentrations, transport, and transformation in biosolids land application and other soil and subsurface settings.

Description:

This presentation will cover the exposure pathways of PFAS with particular emphasis on biosolids and landfills.   Temporal and Spatial Assessment of PFAS in Wastewater Treatment- Project designed to:  Develop a better understanding of the temporal variability of PFAS concentrations entering wastewater facilities. Evaluate the fate of PFAS through wastewater treatment. Determine the concentrations of PFAS in residual streams over time with an eye toward pretreatment options and evaluating disposal options.
