Reichman, J. AND J. Svoboda. Pacific Ecological Systems Division, Molecular Ecology and Biotechnology Research. UC Berkeley, Environmental Health Science Division, Justin Remais lab group meeting, Berkeley, CA, December 13 - 14, 2023.

Impact/Purpose:

This presentation covers on-going collaborations between ORD/PESD and such partners on the RARE 2093 Project: Metals Toxicity Fish Transcriptomics and the STLR Project: Lead Monitoring Tools for Migratory Birds. The presentation expands the discussion to include examples of ORD/PESD RAP research in SSWR.403.4.2: Micro & Nanoplastics Impacts to Estuarian Benthic Meiofauna, and CSS.403.2.1 and 2: Data & Tools to Support Risk Assessments of Synbio Products. Also, the presentation introduces an up-coming Pathfinder Innovation Project: Fire's Role in Fungal Pathogen Dispersal and Distribution. Overall, the presentation is intended to showcase key research leadership, genomics data collection and bioinformatics analyses at the Division, and to foster potential new collaborations on priority issues for partners.

Description:

This presentation is intended for the UC Berkeley, Environmental Health Science Division, Justin Remais lab group. It provides an overview of current projects and collaborations, which depend on PESD molecular research leadership, genomics data collection and bioinformatics analyses. The four research areas covered in the presentation are 1) impacts from metal contamination to wildlife, 2) microplastics and tire wear pollutant impacts to benthic meiofauna, 3) biotech research to support risk assessments, and 4) wildfire smoke and dust storm mobilization of pathogens.
