Impact/Purpose:

2023 North America SETAC 44th Annual Meeting (Nov 12-16). Louisville, KY. PESD’s Amanda Nahlik will present, “National Aquatic Resource Surveys (NARS) Data for Addressing Impacts and Risk.” This presentation, in collaboration with OW, is focused on the National Aquatic Resource Survey (NARS) program objectives, and how the survey designs and data collected support the calculation of relative and attributable risk of different stressors, such as nutrients, on the condition of aquatic ecosystems at regional and national scales. Using data collected as part of the National Rivers and Streams Assessment (NRSA), the relationship of biological condition in urban areas of the conterminous US to measures of environmental justice (EJ) is described. Assessing risk at large scales, and examining the relationship of risk to EJ communities, is critical information for ensuring equitable access to healthy rivers and streams across the nation.

Description:

Abstract/presentation for a the session “Methods and Data for Cumulative Impact Assessment in the Context of Environmental Justice” at the 2023 North America SETAC 44th Annual Meeting (November 12-16, 2023).  Invited to contribute a talk highlighting the National Aquatic Resource Survey (NARS) Program by Chris Frey and Sean Paul.
