Bayesian networks in ecological risk assessment

Citation:

Carriger, John F. Bayesian networks in ecological risk assessment. Seminar for South Florida Water Management District, Cincinnati, OH, September 15, 2022.

Impact/Purpose:

This is an invited seminar open to the aquifer storage and recovery group at the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) and their external collaborators. The SFWMD modelers initially requested this to learn about Bayesian networks. The presentation slides provide a broad overview of research on Bayesian networks with weight of evidence and causal modelling by myself and others as an introduction.

Description:

Bayesian networks are powerful tools providing capabilities for combining mechanistic and statistical modelling in a rigorous fashion that accounts for uncertainties through probability theory. However, Bayesian networks have been underutilized in ecological risk assessment. This presentation will highlight past applications and where Bayesian networks could go in the future to benefit ecological risk assessment.
