Impact/Purpose:
Although lead service lines (LSLs), when present, represent the greatest lead exposure source, other legacy plumbing materials can also be sources of lead in drinking water. These materials, including galvanized iron pipe, leaded solder and leaded brass, are commonly found in premise plumbing. Similar to LSLs, water quality changes can impact lead release from these materials, resulting in ALEs and high lead concentrations to customers. These non-LSL sources will become increasingly important to consider as LSLs are removed from service.
