Impact/Purpose:

This presentation provides an overview of U.S. EPA Office of Research and Development research activities pertaining to the development and performance assessment of standard reference material (SRM 2917) in collaboration with the National Institutes of Standards and Technology (NIST).  The reference material functions with 13 recreational water quality qPCR assays designed to estimate the level of fecal pollution and characterize pollutant sources.  This effort is in response to high priority priorities described in the Safe and Sustainable Water Resources Research Action plan for Research Area 3, Output 1, Products 1.

Description:

Fecal pollution remains a significant challenge for recreational water quality management across many states, territories, and tribal lands.  In response, EPA Office of Research and Development (ORD) maintains an active research program focused on method development, performance assessment, and science to support implementation.  This presentation provides an overview of research activities pertaining to the development and performance assessment of standard reference material (SRM 2917) in collaboration with the National Institutes of Standards and Technology (NIST).
