Lessons Learned: Nanomaterial Exposure from Wastewater to Waterways

Citation:

Varner, K. Lessons Learned: Nanomaterial Exposure from Wastewater to Waterways. Nanomaterial Removal From Wastewater OCED Webinar, Paris, FRANCE, June 08, 2022.

Impact/Purpose:

A presentation about on-going research to allow panel discussions addressing nanomaterials in wastewater questions: 1- What environmental fate and behavior properties can inform removal from wastewater? 2- Do current approaches (experimental/modeling) enable estimation of removal of nanomaterials from wastewater? 3- Are current approaches specific to certain types of nanomaterials? 4- What can we learn from other fields (e.g. nanomaterials leaching from solid waste)? 5- What approaches could be standardized and what approaches need further research?

Description:

Broad overview of EPA perspective on sustainable management of nanomaterials in the environment.  Discussion of guidelines for nanotechnology treatments and recovery; benefits and gaps.  Applicability of discoveries made from nanomaterials in agriculture.
