Interim Update to the Eco-Health Relationship Browser

Citation:

Russell, M. AND L. Jackson. Interim Update to the Eco-Health Relationship Browser. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, DC, 2023.

Impact/Purpose:

This subproduct will synthesize recent findings on the relationship of natural infrastructure access, composition, and design to health outcomes related to physical activity and engagement with nature. Everyday opportunities to participate in these activities have been found to protect against obesity, depression, and stress. These negative states are widespread, with disproportionate prevalence in vulnerable populations. They contribute significantly to additional adverse health and economic outcomes, decreasing individual and community resilience. This product will support community revitalization efforts by communicating the scientific evidence on how neighborhood natural infrastructure contributes to healthful lifestyles and mitigates key public-health issues.

Description:

This subproduct updates the EcoHealth Relationship Browser with literature between 2016-2018. This interactive tool provides information about several of our nation's major ecosystems, the services they provide, and how those services, or their degradation and loss, may affect people. Relationships updated in this dataset focused on the mental health beneifts of the ecosystem services Asthetics and Engagment with Nature and Recreational and Physical Activity.
