Citation:

Liu, X. AND M. Mullin. Inadvertent PCBs EPA Research National Tribal Toxics Council. National Tribal Toxics Council Meeting, Virtual, AK, February 27, 2023.

Impact/Purpose:

Although commercial polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) production was banned in 1979 under the Toxics Substance Control Act (TSCA), inadvertent generation of PCBs (iPCBs) through a variety of chemical production processes continues to contaminate products and waste streams. This presentation is an outreach to the National Tribal Toxics Council (NTTC). NTTC is an EPA Tribal Partnership group that is focused on providing Tribes with an opportunity for greater input on issues related to toxic chemicals and pollution prevention. The research includes source identification, air emission, and dust migration studies and preliminary exposure assessment. The shared information will help tribal prioritize their risk assessment and effective management options for iPCBs that impacting their lifeways and health.
