Impact/Purpose:

To provide an overview of PFAS issues relating to POTW operational and pretreatment program personnel, including current POTW-related research and treatment technology for the removal/destruction of PFAS.

Description:

PFAS are a class of chemicals that are drawing the attention of researchers and regulators.  This session will provide an overview of PFAS, their health and environmental concerns, including their sources and levels in municipal wastewater.  An overview of U.S. EPA activities and investigations relating to the occurrence, fate, and transport of PFAS compounds in the environment and our wastewater infrastructure systems will be provided.  Ongoing research activities by U.S. EPA’s Office of Research and Development related to PFAS at POTWs will be described.  This will include POTW sampling strategies, plans and ongoing programs.  Additional discussion on PFAS treatment technologies and human health and environmental concerns will be included.
