Impact/Purpose:

The Analysis for Coastal Operational Resiliency (AnCOR) program is an interagency effort involving the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Homeland Security, and the United States Coast Guard (USCG). The overall purpose of this multi-agency program is to develop and demonstrate capabilities and strategic guidelines to prepare the U.S. for a wide-area release of a biological agent, including mitigating impacts to USCG facilities and assets.  Specifically, this phase of the AnCOR program is to conduct a wide area demonstration (WAD) that will operationally test and evaluate options for decontamination, sampling, data management, and waste management for USCG assets and outdoor areas impacted by a wide-area biological agent release. This presentation will be used to virtually provide the necessary training to the samplers that will be collecting samples during sampling activities during the WAD.

Description:

Presentation and sampling procedure handouts to be used during sampler virtual training for AnCOR WAD demonstration. As part of the AnCOR project, a wide area demonstration (WAD) of decontamination of USCG assets in an urban area with a Bacillus anthracis surrogate will take place at the Fort A.P. Hill Urban Warfare Training Center (UWTC) located near Bowling Green, VA. The urban area will include a multi-story building and the surrounding hard surfaces including brick, concrete, glass, metal exterior surfaces, asphalt, and soft surfaces including grass and trees. One of the objectives of WAD is to demonstrate the ability to scale-up traditional biological sampling methods (sponge-sticks, 37-mm filter cassettes, reference material coupons, dry filter unit air samples) and demonstrate newly developed and/or non-traditional sampling methods including grab collection (grass, gravel, leaves, and ground litter), waste and Activity-based Aggressive-air Contained Sampling System (AACeSS), in an outdoor setting. This presentation will be used to provide the samplers that will be collecting samples during the WAD virtual training on sponge-stick, 37 mm filter cassettes, and grab sample collection to better prepare them for duties during the demonstration.
