Water Quality of Air Conditioning Condensate - Implications for Onsite Use

Citation:

Jahne, M., D. King, AND K. Kovalcik. Water Quality of Air Conditioning Condensate - Implications for Onsite Use. WRAP Condensate Reuse Action 4.5 Meeting, Cincinnati, OH, September 20, 2022.

Impact/Purpose:

*This is a repeat of the 8/22/22 meeting for additional attendees* Presentation to the project team for Water Reuse Action Plan Action 4.5 related to air conditioning condensate collection and use.  The presentation will summarize preliminary results of our condensate water quality study characterizing opportunistic pathogens and metals across 13 systems at 4 locations.  Results indicate the potential for microbial growth and metals leaching in untreated condensate collections, emphasizing the need to manage these systems similarly to other premise water distribution systems during reuse.  These conclusions are consistent with existing guidances and will be used as supportive evidence for inclusion of appropriate condensate collection and use practices in industry plumbing codes under the WRAP Action.
