Considering urban green infrastructure for ?air pollution mitigation

Citation:

Baldauf, R. Considering urban green infrastructure for ?air pollution mitigation. RECLAIM Webinar Series, London, London, UK, August 03, 2022.

Impact/Purpose:

Exposures to traffic emissions has been identified as a major public health concern.  The use of urban green infrastructure has been shown to mitigate near-road air pollution when designed properly.  This presentation provides an overview of the characteristics that can improve local air quality as well as EPA resources to aid in designs.  This presentation is intended for environmental and transportation planners and health professionals.

Description:

The recent 2022 Health Effects Institute report highlights the critical public health concern of exposures to traffic-related emissions.  EPA conducted research on how roadside vegetation can impact local air quality, and how this technique can mitigate near-road air pollution concerns.  Based on this research, EPA has developed tools and resources to aid in designing effective roadside vegetation barriers and avoid unintended consequences as reviewed in this presentation.
