Spatial and Temporal Dynamics of Cyanobacterial Blooms in Rhode Island Ponds – an Update for the Friends of Warwick Pond.

Citation:

Shivers, S., Jeff Hollister, B. Kreakie, S. Fournier, AND B. Milstead. Spatial and Temporal Dynamics of Cyanobacterial Blooms in Rhode Island Ponds – an Update for the Friends of Warwick Pond. Friends of Warwick Pond, Warwick, Rhode Island, April 18, 2022.

Impact/Purpose:

Steven Shivers and Jeff Hollister from the EPA will discuss the state of Warwick Pond and the algae blooms that have occurred.

Description:

Cyanobacteria are found naturally in freshwater ecosystems and can form blooms under favorable conditions. These harmful algal blooms (cHABs) may be toxic and can affect human and environmental health. A better understanding of how and why blooms form is needed to predict bloom formation. This presentation summarizes four years of field work on Warwick Pond from 2017-2021 (excluding 2020).
