Air Sensor Data Solutions

Citation:

Hagler, G. AND A. Clements. Air Sensor Data Solutions. Air, Climate, and Energy webinar series, NA, August 19, 2021.

Impact/Purpose:

This presentation slide set provides an overview of a completed Air, Climate, and Energy Product related to understanding federal, state, local, and tribal air agencies needs related to air sensor data management. In addition, the presentation covers work-in-progress for a follow-on FY21 Product that focuses upon understanding the current technical landscape for solutions to the needs identified. Finally, this presentation slide deck was originally presented internally but is being cleared for sharing with external parties to communicate about this project with developers of new technology solutions.

Description:

As air sensors proliferate in use, the management of their data is a growing technical challenge faced by the federal government as well as state, local, and tribal (SLT) air agencies. Air sensor data vary in format by device manufacturer, are typically high volume with temporal resolution, and many devices auto-report to third party services. The data volume and variety has created significant challenges for some federal and SLT organizations. To understand their specific needs, ORD has led a cross-EPA effort to conduct a series of dialogues with EPA Regions and SLTs regarding their sensor data challenges and then have been assessing the technology landscape to determine potential solutions.
