Impact/Purpose:

This presentation will give the audience a background to the biosolids 40CFR Part 503 regulations with respect to microbial pathogen monitoring and vector attraction reduction.  The presentation will cover the statue, the specific details around Class A, and Class B biosolids treatment and then subsequent monitoring for microbal pathogens as required by the regulations.  The presentation will also discuss in a more elementary fashion the science behind the regulations.

Description:

Biosolids are regulated by the US EPA under the authority of the Clean Water Act.  Biosolids regulations can be found under the CWA as 40 CFR Part 503.  Listed in the regulations are the standards that biosolids must meet in order to qualify as able to be safely land applied and recycled into the environment.  The regulations list the engineering parameters as well as the microbial monitoring tha must be met to safely recycle. This presentation will discuss the regulatory requirments for pathogen monitoring and vector attraction reduction as outlined in 40CFR Part 503.
