The purpose of this poster is to highlight a portion of the "Story Map of Health and Green Infrastructure in the Proctor Creek Watershed" which focuses on mosquitoes and tire dumping at the ESRI Users conference Map Gallery.
Description:
Several studies have shown that certain mosquitoes, including those that carry the West Nile virus, often prefer to lay their eggs in impaired or polluted waters. The City of Atlanta faces considerable challenges from mosquitoes each year and the Proctor Creek community has experienced these problems firsthand. The map shows areas that the Proctor Creek community has identified as "mosquito hot spots" (i.e., areas where they have experienced significant mosquito populations) and areas where tire dumping is common, along with the two locations in the Proctor Creek watershed where the Fulton County Board of Health currently monitors for mosquitoes.
