Citation:

Stuart, B. Improving the QAPP Review and Approval Process. US EPA Quality Program Virtual Meeting Apr 27-29, 2021, Virtual, April 27 - 29, 2021.

Impact/Purpose:

The purpose of this presentation is to share with the QA community and outside stakeholders how visual management can be used for process improvement. The presentation will be given during a plenary entitled: Innovative Practices in Quality Assurance and will share a strategy, results, and lessons learned when applying visual management to the Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) review and approval process.

Description:

The ORD reorganization resulted in the formation of new Centers and teams. As individuals were brought together, a number of challenges were faced in how to perform research support functions with inconsistent processes from prior organizations, manage workload with resource constraints, and continue to provide exemplary customer service. To address this, the CEMM QA team implemented a visual management strategy to improve the QAPP review and approval process. Preliminary results have seen overall improvements in turnaround times for both QAPP review and QAPP approval. Additionally, visual management has improved team communication, team competency, and consistency.
