Development of standardized methods to assess CoV-2 in Sewage (Environmental Health Subgroup for the One Health Federal Interagency COVID-19 Coordination Group)
Citation:
Oshima, K. Development of standardized methods to assess CoV-2 in Sewage (Environmental Health Subgroup for the One Health Federal Interagency COVID-19 Coordination Group). Environmental Health Subgroup for the One Health Federal Interagency COVID-19 Coordination Group, Virtual, September 23, 2020.
Impact/Purpose:
Presentation provides an overview of ORD's research to develop standardized methods for detecting SARS CoV-2 from sewage. The study design for stability of CoV-2 in raw sewage, sample concentration and detection by molecular and culture will be described. The analysis of sewage for CoV-2 offers the potential for providing an assessment of community infection for COVID-19 that can be used to assess the effectiveness of mitigation and early detection of COVID-19 within a community. This research would have broad interest within Federal Government efforts on COVID 19 research.
Description:
This presentation provides a general overview of the ORD effort to develop methods to detect SARS CoV-2 in raw sewage. Background information on the biology of CoV-2, objectives and potential impact of this research is summarized.
