Bringing ecogenomic surveillance and monitoring data to end-users

Impact/Purpose:

This is the keynote address for the International Environmental Genomics Workshop, which this year will focus on "discussing tools and strategies that will help decision makers effectively utilize genomics data in various environmental management and stewardship scenarios." The aim of the presentation is to provide possible solutions to challenges facing scientists who wish to more successfully engage with decision-makers and better incorporate their science and data into decision-making contexts.

Description:

The presentation will explore several specific challenges associated with the incorporation of DNA-based monitoring data into decision-making: the problem of understanding false positive errors, the difficulty of establishing appropriate quality assurance measures to identify fit-for-purpose surveillance data, and the hurdles to transitioning from traditional to novel methods in large-scale monitoring programs.
