PurpleAir Sensors: Perspective and Challenges - Highlighting the work of EPA ORD
Citation:
Clements, A. PurpleAir Sensors: Perspective and Challenges - Highlighting the work of EPA ORD. 2019 NACAA Spring Membership Meeting, Kansas City, MO, April 29 - 30, 2019.
Impact/Purpose:
This slide set describes work by EPA researchers to be presented at the National Association of Clean Air Agencies Spring Membership Meeting. The work will EPA/ORD research projects evaluating the performance and use of PurpleAir sensors at various locations, variable time periods, and under a wide range of environmental conditions. The results are aimed at addressing many of the common questions posed by local clean air agencies.
Description:
PurpleAir sensors are widely used low-cost particulate matter sensors. Previous research has evaluated these sensors by comparison to regulatory instruments in a few locales. This presentation highlights EPA/ORD research looking into how this relationship differs across geographically diverse locations across the US, how sensor perform during extreme events, and how data can be quality assured. 4 separate research projects, by a variety of EPA principle investigators, will be highlighted. This research will make it easier for EPA and local partners to communicate information to, and interpret data from, the general public.
