Urban green and built infrastructure as a tool to mitigate local air pollution

Citation:

Baldauf, R. Urban green and built infrastructure as a tool to mitigate local air pollution. CANUE Webinar Series, Toronto, Ontario, CANADA, April 10, 2018.

Impact/Purpose:

Webinar as part of a series for the Canadian Urban Environment (CANUE) Research Center. Health studies show that living, working and going to school near major transportation facilities increases the risk of adverse health effects including asthma, stroke, birth defects and cancer. Urban communities seek mitigation methods they can implement in order to reduce exposures to hazardous pollutants emitted by transportation sources. This presentation provides an overview of the effectiveness and limitations of urban design techniques that can be used to improve urban air quality including sound walls and roadside vegetation.

Description:

Summary of EPA research and resources on how green and built infrastructure affects near-road and urban air quality
