Per-and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS): Source/Site Characterization and Treatment/Remediation..

Citation:

Mills, M. Per-and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS): Source/Site Characterization and Treatment/Remediation.. Emerging Contaminants Summit 2018, Westminster,CO, March 06 - 07, 2018.

Impact/Purpose:

To discuss: (a) the significant investment in PFAS related research; (b) the standardized methods and sampling being developed; (c) the source control as a cost effective means of managing risk of these chemicals; (d) the research needs for treating PFAS in different environmental media and under different environmental conditions, and science-based decision to evaluate replacement and alternatives to PFAS-based chemistries. To present the current state of the science regarding per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) analytical methods, sources and fate.

Description:

The current state of the science regarding per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) analytical methods, sources and fate are provided in this presentation. Analytical methods are critical to properly characterize the temporal and spatial extent of sources of PFAS to the environment. Once identified and characterized, source require management of risk.
